BULLETS #1: 2 NOVEMBER 2012

1. MAC DEMARCO. One of my bigger regrets this CMJ, not seeing this guy. This is what I wanted Real Estate to sound like.

2. ACTUAL PAIN FALL 2012. a/k/a Academy of Holy Light. King Dude is a stan-maker. I can’t bring myself to wear any of the ‘getting high’ stuff but the “New America” and “Sigil” designs are some of his best yet.

3. WILL HAPPINESS FIND ME? What a bummer to see critics been-there done-that Maria Minerva right when she’s hitting her stride. This record is far and away her strongest—not just the songs but the mix (killer low-end). The way she’s singing these melodies too, sliding in and out of pitch… Alas. “Needs more clipping.”

4. HALLOWEEN AT DEATH BY AUDIO. Sleepies and co raised $1000+ for Red Cross disaster relief. A salute to Alyse Eula, Heaven’s Gate, Acid Problem, Andy Bodor and Go-Guhs for turning a packed house into something much more than that.

5. SIOUXSIE AND THE NO-SHOWS. Deeply sorry about the absence on 10/31. Mr. Dream’s Siouxsie was Lizzy from MS MR, who got stuck in DC because of Sandy. (She beat us to the “Hurricane” punch.) We will make this up to you. A limited run EP is in the works, featuring bad-ass versions of (among others) “Monitor”, “Happy House”, and “Israel”.

6. 12/12/12. ANNOUNCING: A MR. DREAM CHRISTMAS. Glasslands @ 289 Kent. More details forthcoming. Tix on sale now.

everyone!

psyched you’re coming tonight. our original venue, delinquency, was shut down last night, so there are two adjustments to party details:

1. CMJ ENTERS GODMODE will now be nearby at XPO 929: 929 Broadway in Brooklyn. the venue is mere seconds away from the Myrtle Ave JMZ.

2. Xpo 929 doesn’t allow BYOB, but will graciously be doing $2 rolling rocks until 10pm,  $2 shots all night, and two-for-one specials with soju, the delicious korean liquor.

xpo is open at 7 if you want to hang out. first band is on at 8.

bonus: matt morello from mr. dream will be playing tunes all night.
